Ireland’s Place in a World in Crisis: Examining the cultural, economic, environmental, political and social effects of the global crisis on Ireland.

Friday June 9th

  • 5.30 p.m.
    Official opening at the Sean Mac Diarmada cottage.
    Bus in operation from the Community Centre from 5.00 p.m. Light refreshments in the Community Centre after the official opening.
  • 7.15 – 8.15 p.m.
    Vincent Woods
    Title “Seeding a future: Hope, History and Human Intelligence”
  • 8.15 – 9.15 p.m.
    Orla Parkinson Memorial Lecture
    Patricia Groves
    Presentation Title:  ‘Lessons from the Ladies’ Land League: Managing a country in crisis during global upheaval’.

Saturday June 10th

  • 10.30 – 11.30 a.m.
    Dr Tony Bates
    Title “What Psychology has to offer in a frantic world – widening the aperture of our awareness”
  • 11.30 – 12.30 p.m.
    Dr Micheline Sheehy Skeffington
    Title: “Ireland’s native flora – is it in crisis?”
  • Lunch 12.30 – 2.00 p.m.
    Heritage Centre will be open during lunch
  • 2.30 – 3.30 p.m.
    Senator Emer Currie
    Title: “Convergence versus divergence in a changing world”
  • 3.30 – 4.30 p.m.
    Fr Peter McVerry SJ
    Title: “Ireland in crisis – how can intelligent people be so stupid?”
