Orla Parkinson Memorial Lecture
Through the Orla Parkinson Memorial Lecture, the summer school
remembers Orla Parkinson, a vibrant and dynamic personality, whose
presence in the communities of Manorhamilton and Kiltyclogher
touched the lives of so many people in so many ways.
A professional librarian with County Leitrim Library Service, Orla
connected with a wide variety of people through her many talents,
including those of writing and drama. A key contributor to her
community, Orla gave of her time, energy and talent to promote the
progression of her locality.
The Sean Mac Diarmada summer school is honoured each year to
remember Orla in this lecture dedicated to her memory. It is typically
an historical presentation which bears testament to Orla’s abiding
interest in the subject of history.
