    Callaghan’s Place

Beezneez Theatre Company presents Callaghan’s Place by John McDwyer in Kiltyclogher Community Centre on Thursday 19th July at 8.30 p.m.

Thought by many to be John McDwyer’s finest play, Callaghan’s Place has been the subject of two national tours, as well as playing a sold out week in London, since it was premiered by Beezneez in 2003. It has been performed extensively by amateur companies the length and breadth of Ireland.

In Callaghan’s Place, Paul and Mary Dolan struggle to come to terms with the upcoming departure of their only child to study at university. A mysterious Englishman arrives in their midst and his blossoming friendship with the daughter creates the background to tragedy as neighbours, Pat Kelly and Annie Jackson, themselves custodians of great regret and sorrow, fail to stem the tide of Paul’s suspicion and anger. For all the seriousness of the underlying themes, Callaghan’s Place is peppered with scenes of outrageous humour.
